Privacy & Safety

Protecting contributors is a core obligation of this archive.

Your identity can be protected from public display, but no online system can guarantee absolute security. Do not submit information that could place you or another person in immediate danger. Contact us for alternative secure channels when needed.

Anonymity & Pseudonyms

You may choose to publish under your real name, a pseudonym, remain fully anonymous, or keep the entire submission confidential. Editorial review is required before any personally identifying information is published. Appearance of a name in someone else’s testimony does not automatically create a public profile.

Identity Protection

Confidential submissions are stored separately and are not accessible through the public archive. Access by research staff is restricted and logged. Redaction of sensitive passages is available upon request or at editorial discretion when risk is identified.

Sensitive Evidence & Metadata

Uploaded files may contain embedded location data, device identifiers, or other metadata. IJWI reviews and, where appropriate, strips or limits such data before any publication. Exact coordinates are withheld when disclosure could endanger survivors, witnesses, or vulnerable people. Records may use exact, approximate, or hidden location settings.

Secure Communication

For high-risk situations, alternative submission channels can be arranged. Do not rely solely on standard web forms if you believe you are under active threat.

Responsible Publication

No evidence or testimony is published automatically. Every public record passes through structured editorial review. Material that could reasonably endanger living persons may be withheld, redacted, or kept confidential even if the contributor requested publication.

Content Moderation & Corrections

Contributors may request corrections, additional redactions, or withdrawal of public material by contacting the archive with their reference number. Review decisions are documented. Disputed information is labelled accordingly rather than silently removed.

Evidence Handling

Original files are preserved. Working copies used for publication may be processed for safety and accessibility. Chain-of-custody notes are maintained for materials of potential legal or historical significance.
